Legal Counsel - Global Commercial & Chemicals

Job description:
 
Providing high quality, accurate and timely legal advice under Legal Services Global Operations department with a strong focus on Global Commercial and Chemicals business with a view to furthering business objectives and protecting shareholder interests.
 

  • Drafting, review and advising on legal risks for spot, short term and long-term high value Chemicals sales and purchase contracts (including swap and tolling arrangements) and ancillary agreements across a range of Base Chemicals and Intermediates product lines in support of activities in Asia Pacific, Europe and US
  • Drafting, review and advising on legal risks for land and marine logistics agreements including some C&P contracting support for storage (eg tank capacity), transport (marine/barge, rail, road) arrangements.
  • Undertaking legal research and coordinating legal input across jurisdictions on specific legal issues.
  • Assisting in creation and updating of training materials for business, short legal guidance notes or FAQs (including development of Chatbot capability over time) and assisting with provision of periodic business training including on E&C related issues
  • Supporting design and implementation of CI initiatives to increase effectiveness of contracting processes and tools (including further development of capability of Spring CM contracting system) and simplification and further automation of Chemicals templates
  • Support Project Pele, including the development of templates and playbooks
  • Supporting development of LSD contracting Centre of Excellence team

 

Requirements:

  • Possess at least 8-12 years legal experience. Experience in the oil and gas industry or international energy projects will be an added advantage;
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the country where the offices are located on a full-time basis. Educational prerequisites and license to provide legal services in the jurisdiction where physically located.
  • Possess a Degree in Law;
  • Strong legal drafting skills;
  • The ability to develop and sustain relationships with stakeholders at all levels; 
  • Flexibility to work as part of virtual team interacting with colleagues in different LSD businesses spread across AP, Europe and US and business partners across the globe. 
  • Fluency in English with strong English legal drafting skills.
  • Strong contracting experience with the ability to understand strategies and risk mitigation in template documents and identify and support  improvements/simplification of existing templates.
  • Ability to think strategically and support CI initiatives with demonstrated  interest/experience in automation of contracting processes and use of new technologies eg AI, block chain etc.
  • Ideally, demonstrated leadership/management skills – to support the development of a new Center of Excellence and ecosystems with the SBO
