Department/Team overview

The Abandoned Property Unit provides abandoned/unclaimed property services and support to internal BNYM business areas for compliance with various jurisdictional rules, including SEC 17Ad-17. Under moderate supervision, a successful candidate helps compile and synthesize a variety of data feeds, databases and spreadsheets of low-to-moderate complexity; assists with more complex datasets to identify patterns that may point to a more systemic issue; is expected to possess a detail-oriented mindset; adds and maintains data on BNYM’s systems; inputs and verifies accuracy of information; conducts preliminary, basic calculations for more senior colleagues and helps develop reports; may test software enhancements and upgrades as necessary; may perform basic calculations, initiate the execution of data modeling programs and prepare initial drafts of simple charts, graphs or reports; responds to data-related questions from internal and external clients, where responses to customers are thoroughly documented and verified. Responsible for the quality and completion of own work; works proactively and independently, individually and together as part of a global team; leverages various technology and information solutions to meet objectives and improve processes; and performs all job duties successfully in a high-paced, multiple-priority environment.  No direct reports. Provides guidance to less experienced team members, as needed; and be able to work extended hours during peak processing times or when priority projects arise.

Job Qualifications

  • High school/secondary school or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelors degree preferred. 1-2 years of total work experience in the financial industry is preferred.
  • PC skills including a strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of controls and procedure development
  • Strong analytical skills
