BSP Finance Senior Associate

Benefit Street Partners ("BSP") is a leading credit-focused alternative asset management firm with approximately $41 billion in assets under management. Established in 2008, the BSP platform manages funds for institutions, high-net-worth and retail investors across various strategies including: private/opportunistic debt, liquid loans, high yield, special situations, long-short liquid credit and commercial real estate debt. These complementary strategies leverage the proprietary sourcing, analytical, operational and compliance capabilities that encompass BSP’s robust institutional platform. BSP’s operational headquarters are located in Boston, MA and support the investment team located in New York, NY.
The BSP Finance team is responsible for the finance and reporting obligations of BSP’s private debt funds. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to focus on the credit, private debt funds and gain additional experience to all other investment products from both an accounting and operational standpoint.
Working with us, you will be responsible for:
- Oversight of cash reconciliation process and escalate material issues daily including issue tracking and coordination of its resolution
- Facilitate between finance and the BSP operation team in the daily and month end investment holding reconciliations
- Obtain working knowledge of VPM accounting system and assist the managed service team in issues
- Serve as the main liaison between the managed service team based in India and the onshore team
- Obtain working knowledge of loan settlement and typical transactions
- Assist in review of portfolio PnL reconciliation on a monthly/quarterly basis, including issue identification and resolution
- Assist in financial statements review
- Annual fund audit coordination, especially facilitating the cash/position confirmation process with fund admins and counterparties
- Ad hoc process improvement and automation projects
We are looking for candidates who:
- 3+ years of experience
- Experience with or working knowledge of accounting and trade systems
- Experience in reconciliation of NAV and portfolio data a plus, including but not limited to reconciliation of investment positions, investment income/profit/loss, cash activities
- Experience in working with debt instruments (including but not limited to bank debt, bonds, equity, and derivative instruments) preferably in a hedge fund or private equity environment
- Analytical skills, with an ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and provide timely responses
- Comfortable analyzing large data sets
- Ability to efficiently create and implement new workflows
- Ability to work independently and manage own tasks with limited supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Flexible approach towards office / hybrid work arrangement (3 days minimum in-office).
