Business Context

The world is changing fast and Shell is changing too – to meet our target to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050. Shell’s integrated global Corporate Relations function delivers value by supporting our strategy and sectoral approach and improving policy and advocacy and reputational outcomes through effective engagement and communication.

In support of Shell’s strategic ambition, the Policy & Advocacy team operates within the Corporate Relations function. The P&A team concentrates on policy and trust outcomes and brings together expertise across Lines of Business and functions, using sophisticated approaches including leveraging integrated campaigns aimed at a range of stakeholders. The P&A team is a strategic partner to the business and develops the communications, policy and advocacy, and reputation-building programmes required to deliver Shell’s Powering Progress strategy. 

About the role

The newly created position is based in Krakow, Poland. Part of the Downstream P&A team, the role reports to the Senior Corporate Relations Advisers, Downstream,who operate as a job share. This role will be the focal for Downstream business disclosure reviews and approvals

Communicating Shell informationcomes with reputational risk. Corporate Relations have a critical responsibility - working with Marketing, Legal and others - to ensure this risk is managed appropriately. The successful candidate will deliver disclosure review for all Shell information communicated to the public by the Downstream businesses to ensure compliance with the company’s Disclosure Standard. Examples of content include:products and services marketing communications;broader marketing brand campaign communications; business delivery milestones; announcements and events. 

In addition, this role will support the Senior Corporate Relations Advisers in the delivery of a communications strategy which strengthens the commercial and reputational value of Shell by showcasing Downstream contributions. 

The role is one of three similar, newly created roles for Downstream and one for IGR&ES. Given these roles are based in Krakow we expect the individuals to develop into a strong community, learning from each other and looking for opportunities to improve processes. 

Accountabilities

  • Be the focal point for all requests to disclose Shell information to the public from across Downstream (Mobility, Lubricants, Sectors Decarbonisation and Chemicals & Products businesses)

  • Develop a strong understanding of reputational risk and the need to balance Performance, Behaviours and Communicationsin order to manage this risk. 

  • Use your knowledge and established processes to assess and prioritise (or elevate)approval requests based on varying factors (e.g.strategic significance, EC/EVP involvement, risks or reputational benefit, etc.).

  • Develop a strong knowledge of the Corporate Relations (including Media Relations), Legal and Investor Relations functions and foster strong relationships to enable/ensure that the right people are involved in the approval process of disclosure of Shell information.

  • Develop a high level knowledge of Shell style and brand guidelines such that you can identify gaps in the content you receive for review and help to upskill marketing teams. 

  • Review submitted content and ensureit meets the requirements of the Disclosure Standard, approving (or rejecting) accordingly. 

  • Drive and tailor internal campaigns/engagement programmes to increase compliance with the Disclosure Standard.

  • Lead measurement initiatives to have auditable insights about the usage of and compliance with the Disclosure Standard.

  • Since this is a newly created role, with newly established procedures we expect the individual to suggest process improvements and as a stretch goal, to lead on the implementation of changes. 

Content development

  • Support the coordination of Downstream content input for Shell quarterly results, Annual Report, Sustainability Report, and Energy Transition Progress Report.

  • Provideediting support oncontent and announcements as required to ensure alignment with business narratives and approved key messages. 

  • Support the development and maintenance of Downstream content including key messages, narratives, proof points and web content. Keep your ear to the ground on new and evolving activities and help to update content.
