Job description:
NAM is a 50/50 joint venture of Shell and ExxonMobil. It is operated by Shell and develops all NL based Upstream activities and a significant investment program. Finance in NAM covers a wide range of Finance areas of a Shell Production Company.
 
Working for NAM Finance means:

NAM is an important part of Upstream International Operated (UIO), the Line of Business that primarily covers Shell's operated upstream oil and gas operations and investments.
 
Management Information Analyst role for NAM is a key role in business performance review and management process. Preparation of clear and accurate information is crucial to help the leadership team to run the business. MI Analyst shall play a role in business content analysis, quarterly latest estimates preparation and analysis of differences between targets and actuals. A part of the involves reporting of financials (Income Statement focus) to Exxon Mobile and providing explanations for numbers fluctuations.
 
MI Analyst is the first contact for all queries from Group Business Performance & Reporting (BPR) team with regards to actuals dynamic analysis and changes in comparison to target numbers. He/she addresses queries to the extent of own knowledge, involve other stakeholders and get input required.
 
The role will have a mix of deliverables with main focus on reporting, however with some portion of accounting and support activities as well. He/she will ensure business transactions are accounted either automatically or manually in line with the standard global processes as well as Shell and external accounting guidelines or to build accounted numbers into standard reports. They will work collaboratively with colleagues in R&A and their peers from other processes where operational excellence or data integrity impacts on the R&A delivery.


This role will support special projects within Report and Analysis Process and within the immediate team using the skills and knowledge of the individual to drive improvement and support implementation of global standards. He/she will be a member of team (~10 staff), reporting to Senior Team Manager.
 
Accountabilities:

  • Technical submission of actuals numbers in Report One system, calculation of KPIs and deviations of financials.
  • Preparing analysis of numbers (current period actuals, actuals vs target and YTD data overview) as well as related comments for key performance indicators including:
  • NIBIAT, NIAT
  • sales
  • production
  • costs
  • capex
  • depreciation
  • taxation
  • dividends
  • other P&L items

It is done partially independently and partially in a form of coordination of gathering inputs from other analysts.

  • Preparing review material in a form of a slide pack and presenting the results of the analysis to the NAM Controller and his team,
  • Providing answers and explanations for the analyzed results in response to additional queries from both NAM and the Group Business Performance & Reporting (BPR) team,
  • Submitting latest estimates numbers in Report One system based on inputs provided by other analysts,
  • Preparing NAM income statement for Exxon Mobile reporting purposes and explanations for observed fluctuations of numbers,
  • Acting proactively in case of any system issues, adapting to the changes initiated by Shell Group, thinking of improvements in the existing process and implementing it to deliver future effectiveness,
  • Supporting Shell Group and statutory reporting,
  • Performing balance sheet accounts reconciliation in SOAR tool (analyst role),
  • Executing SOX controls, ensure operational and design effectiveness of the controls over financial reporting within the area of responsibility,
  • Initiating and leading R&A process improvements,
  • Resolving and escalate issues timely and effectively,
  • Acting as an effective team player and actively participate in backup structure,
  • Complying with team, Shell Business Operations, process and global policies and procedures,
  • Performing other assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements:

  • strong background in accounting and reporting, an accounting degree is preferred (ACCA, CIMA would be an asset),
  • 6 years’ experience in finance and/or accounting area,
  • very good command of English,
  • excellent analytical and problem solving skills,
  • excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills,
  • very good stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build relationships effectively,
  • ability to achieve results through influencing and motivating others,
  • ability to work with virtual teams, across cultures and time zones,
  • adherence to processes, policies and procedures,
  • ability to work in a rapidly changing and demanding environment,
  • a pro-active attitude, curiosity to learn,
  • experience in using a major ERP system such as SAP or SUN,
  • very good working knowledge of Word, Excel and MS Outlook.
