Job description:
The Financial Planning and Appraisal Senior Analyst role sits within the Upstream Planning, Appraisal & Reporting team in FO Krakow.
The main purpose of the role is the delivery of Upstream business planning and appraisal activities. It includes the coordination of data gathering, data analyzing and providing clear and articulate commentary to senior decision makers. The role is at the heart of Upstream Finance offering Big Picture of Upstream Business.

The FP&A Sr Analyst will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for compiling the planning and performance appraisal submissions. He or she will be working closely with multiple stakeholders to achieve this goal, needing to understand their issues, constructively challenge their inputs and together deliver a high-quality submission.


Individually, this position will have responsibility for a variety of deliverables related to the planning and appraisal process. This role will provide input and advice directly and/or indirectly to Senior leaders in the organization.


Accountability:

  • Successful candidate will be accountable for managing in a comprehensible way Cost/Financials/Capital Investment planning and appraisal deliverables throughout the year, including Business Plan, Business Monitoring as well as Standardized Measures Oil and Gas reporting.

 
Responsibility:

  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual Upstream Business Plan and related assessments working with Lines of Business (Operated, Joint Venture, Deep Water and Unconventional) / functions to ensure a sound submission as a whole and with special focus on the impact of assigned KPIs (Cost/Financials/Capital Investment)
  • Proactively and critically analyze plan and appraisal input from the countries and LOB to prepare high quality consolidated output
  • Manage seamlessly the data and deliver insights to Business Monitoring and Quarterly Performance Appraisal processes
  • Manage Cost/Financials/Capital Investment guidelines and dataset in the run-up to and during annual Operating Plan
  • Contribute to effective audit of Standardized Measures Oil and Gas before the submission to SEC
  • Ad hoc analysis for leadership teams, including insights on financials/results
  • Develop productive relationships with key stakeholders, to deepen team's understanding of underlying issues within the Plan
  • Where relevant coach other team members in areas of expertise

SPECIAL CHALLENGES:
The team engages across the Upstream and has to balance inputs from many stakeholders into a consistent business plan and appraisal submissions.

The nature of the process can result in periods of high workload and all team members are expected to contribute and demonstrate flexibility, so that all key milestones are met, and deliverables submitted.

This position is suited for people with a robust analytical background who would like to influence decision making and the performance management agenda in Shell. 
Requirements:
University degree in a finance related discipline with preference for a professional qualification and/or certification like CIMA, MBA, etc.) 

Min. 5 years of relevant professional experience

Self-starter with a track record of performance and proven ability to deliver quality results under significant time pressure and to tight deadlines
Strong interpersonal & leadership skills with personal confidence to quickly build credibility, respect and rapport;
Excellent communication skills, clarity of thought and ability to translate complex raw data into simple, powerful and easy to communicate key messages & insights
Strong analytical and numerical skills
Evidence of external focus and understanding of the energy industry, competitors, suppliers and markets is helpful
Able to work across organizational boundaries with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders at multiple levels in the organization
Exposure or experience with continuous improvement (especially Lean) is welcomed
