Job description:

 

The Senior Business Analyst role is a core member of Shell’s Planning, Appraisal & Reporting team located in Finance Operations Krakow. We deliver valuable FP&A support to Upstream, Integrated Gas and New Energies.

Shell is a leader in the centralization of FP&A activity & accountability within our Shared Services Centers. This means the Senior Business Analyst role offers broad scope and deep accountability for FP&A delivery. The role directly interfaces with finance & business stakeholders at the most senior levels of Shell’s Upstream, IG and NE businesses.  
 
We are seeking colleagues with a passion and proven capability for finance planning and appraisal. You should have an ability to partner the business and provide value challenge based on a deep understanding of key financial indicators and how they influence each other (NIBIAT, Cash Flow, ROACE etcetera). To excel you will need a strong sense of curiosity to learn the business, its drivers and the levers that can impact results! You will join a successful team in a sought after role that offers business interface, great stakeholder collaboration and leverages the core FP&A skillset.
 
The purpose of this role is the delivery of business planning and appraisal activities. The incumbent will gather data and insights from finance and business stakeholders, perform data and KPI analysis, and ultimately articulate clear messages in engagement with senior decision makers.  The role will give you a strategic understanding of Shell's businesses as we consolidate activity at the regional, business or global level.  
 
We are focused on the development and deployment of digital tools and ensuring that finance people have the necessary technology capabilities for the 21st century. People will a curiosity for technology will have the opportunity and empowerment to drive improvement of our processes and the way we leverage systems for analysis and visualisation.
 

Responsibilities:
 
Activities:

  • Delivery of the full suite of FP&A activity across the year, including Business Planning, Business Monitoring, Actuals Reporting, Latest Estimates, Performance appraisals etc.

  • Take accountability for planning and appraisal of a global financial indicator (eg Cash Flow) and/or  owning a relationship with a specific country or asset area,

  • Proactively and critically analyze plan and appraisal input from the countries and LOB to prepare high quality consolidated analysis across countries and regions (LOBs)

  • Significant Ad hoc analysis for leadership teams, including insights on financials/results

 
Interface & Collaboration

  • Effectively partner the business in performance management conversations by facilitating the discussion between Global Business leads and their business leads in-country

  • Develop productive relationships with key stakeholders, to deepen team's understanding of underlying issues within the Plan & Appraisal scope

  • Coach other team members in your areas of expertise

Process

  • Constant review and improvement of our processes using LEAN & by applying technology

 
Note: Roles can focus on Planning or Appraisal dependent on individual preferences & experiences
 
SPECIAL CHALLENGES:
The team engages across business areas and needs to balance inputs from many stakeholders into coherent, quality business plan and appraisal submissions.

Like all FP&A roles, the nature of these processes can result in periods of high workload and all team members are expected to contribute and demonstrate flexibility, so that all key milestones are met, and deliverables submitted.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
This position is suited for people with a robust analytical background who would like to influence decision making and the performance management agenda in Shell. 
 

Requirements:

University degree in a finance related discipline with preference for a professional qualification and/or certification like CIMA, MBA, etc.) 


5-7  years of relevant professional experience, preferably with direct FP&A experience. Experience in other areas of finance, maths, sciences, humanities will also be considered if paired with the right mindset and behaviours. 
 
Strong Excel skills with a preference for knowledge of PowerQuery, SQL, PowerBI and /or VBA
 
Strong analytical and numerical skills with a deep understanding of financial indicators and how they relate to one another.
 
Evidence of external focus and understanding of the industry, competitors, suppliers and markets
 
Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement (especially Lean) is critical to your success in this role
 
Behaviours & Mindset

Self-starter with a track record of performance and proven ability to deliver quality results under significant time pressure and to tight deadlines
