Job description:

PURPOSE
Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA) support the finance operations of the Shell Group in running and maintaining a compliant and well documented control framework, ensuring processes are compliant and risks are identified and mitigated accordingly.
This role will provide ongoing direction, liaison and advice to senior stakeholders within the Holdings and Treasury organisation (HaT) to support the delivery of the complete control framework and annual assurance cycle.
 

ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Controls, Risk and Assurance Advisor will deliver value by pro-actively supporting the delivery of a robust control framework ensuring a risk-based approach that prioritizes risk, value and assurance activities across the business units. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Coordinates, supports and monitors the Annual Assurance Plan, content review and co-ordination of updates
- Act as HaT Incident Management focal point and ensure the quality of investigations process including identification of root causes and ensuring learnings are implemented.  Co-ordinator of all Incident Reporting for HaT. Represent HaT at the Group Incident network.
- Superuser of the tool supporting the delivery of high-quality risk management documentation to create the organisational risk visuals ensuring consistency and appropriateness across each risk; represent HaT at the Risk forum;
- Support various Assurance Committees operating within HaT functions by coordinating the agenda, preparing/collating input, preparing minutes, following up on actions etc.
- Co-ordinate the input to the Group Assurance Letter Process across both Corporate Controller VP and support EVP Treasury discussion and submissions;
- Act as Segregation of Duties focal point supporting delivery of group standard SOD processes across the Treasury landscape;
- Act as Ethics and Compliance focal point to HaT
lead for all Manual of Authorities (MOA) relevant matters; provision of guidance and management of data
- Management of all aspects of assurance tool in relation to HaT
- Actual collation of information and updating of HaT risk visual
- Participate in projects initiated by GRA, finance process improvements projects and in ad-hoc spot checks or external audit

The HaT Controls, Risk and Assurance Advisor will be responsible to support the GRA Lead across the full Corporate Controllers and Treasury area supporting the EVPs of Treasury, Tax, Controllers and Legal as the Business Assurance Committee.
 
 
INTERFACES
- Stakeholders include finance leadership teams in Treasury, Tax, Pensions, Risk & Insurance, Controllers / Accounting, Finance Operations and Legal.

- Collaborating closely with business focal points and process owners to ensure management in control is maintained.

- Working closely with the HaT Financial Controls and Design leads to ensure that the complete control framework is supported as one GRA team providing all financial controls assurance and design activities, and GRA services activities.

- The role will require liaison with the Group Controls, Governance and Assurance unit as well as GRA advisors in other businesses to ensure all GRA activities are maintained to the highest standard.
 

DIMENSIONS
The Holdings and Treasury team are responsible for all aspects of Shell’s Group financing which includes around 100 legal entities dealing with $8.6 trillion of cash flow, paying $15bn p.a. group dividends, investing over $250bn in 500+ entities dealing with 135 different currencies and providing $140bn loan funding to the business.  The team works closely with Finance Operations, as well as colleagues in Treasury, Tax, Controlling / Accounting and Legal as a Centre of Expertise for technical accounting, risk management and Group structuring.

 

 

Requirements:

The Controls, Risk and Assurance Advisor will be expected to adopt a mindset that seeks to drive ongoing change and improvement across all of their accountabilities and demonstrate relevant results.
- Excellent analysis, communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills, and the ability to achieve results through influencing and motivating others.
- Risk Management experience and a thorough understanding of control design and operation.
- Previous audit, controllership or GRA experience would be beneficial.
- Previous Treasury experience would also be useful.
- Understanding of Treasury activities would be an advantage.
- A professional finance accreditation (for example Accountancy or Treasury qualification) is preferred.
- Fluent English is a must
