Overview

The Middle Office Team manages the entire process from trade entry through to settlement, ensuring that all trades are matched, settled, and reconciled in a timely and efficient manner.

Middle Office - Exchange Traded Derivatives & OTC:

The main functions of the ETD & OTC team are identifying the discrepancies between the trading positions, activities, and cash balances (total equity) of the funds and those of its trading counterparties (executing brokers, clearing brokers and exchanges) and investigating them, reconciling those differences (referred to as breaks) themselves, whenever possible. Those 3 main responsibilities (identification of a break, investigation, reconciliation) involve plethora of additional, more detailed activities, such as obtaining information from data vendors (e.g. Bloomberg), acquiring confirmations from various trading desks, querying appropriate prime brokers, requesting securities’ setup by Reference Data team, amending trade data, reminding Trading Desk of positions’ expiry, calculating and verifying appropriate commissions being charged, booking entries in Portfolio Management System, liaising with custodian banks, etc.

Being part of our Middle Office team, your day-to-day tasks will be related, but not limited to:

  • Identifying the discrepancies against its trading counterparties (cash, positions, trading activity, total equity)
  • Determining the reason for matching failure and suggesting improvement to the process increasing STP rate
  • Advising clearing brokers allocations for daily trade flow
  • Obtaining information from data vendors (e.g.  Bloomberg),
  • Acquiring confirmations from various trading desks,
  • Querying appropriate prime brokers,
  • Checking that the overnight expiry / first notice notifications have been sent to the relevant trading desk(s)
  • Direct contact with client – Hedge Fund
  • Serving as a Subject Matter Expert for the process
  • Supporting others in completing the duties related to the daily process
  • Working closely with other team members to ensure day-to-day tasks associated with customer deliverables are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure compliance with all internal policies, department guidelines, and external regulation

Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task, work to deadlines and accommodate varying levels of volume and priorities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Confident personality, acting as a liaison with Front Office and client/ counterparties – very good customer service skills
  • Pro-active and highly motivated – goal orientated and driven to find resolution of problems
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Proactive in self-training
  • Technical knowledge how financial instruments works - both listed and unlisted would be advantage. Instrument types include, but are not limited to, equities, options, futures, forward contracts, bonds.
