Job Purpose: 

The role of the Lead Management, Financial Crimes Compliance Advisory, is to provide 2nd Line of Defence (2LOD) review, challenge, and advice in relation to financial crimes matters, including a focus on enhanced customer due diligence for correspondent relationships. The role will oversee the UK/EU correspondent relationship due diligence process, supporting the business and KYC teams in relation to escalations concerning due diligence on our customers’ financial crimes programmes. The role will also provide support for other 2LOD financial crimes advisory responsibilities, including review and challenge of High Risk Memos submitted to the EMEA Anti-Money Laundering Committee (EAMLOC), production, oversight, and challenge of financial crimes Management Information (e.g., overdue KYC, compliance-approved extensions, and the Fast Track process), 2LOD support for incoming KYC/due diligence requests and Requests for Proposals (RfPs) (e.g., provision of relevant AML letters to counterparties), and providing 2LOD support on other customer due diligence / enhanced customer due diligence matters, as required.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Correspondent Relationship Due Diligence: oversee the UK/EU correspondent relationship due diligence process, supporting the business and KYC teams in relation to escalation of gaps identified through due diligence on our customers’ financial crimes programmes. Provide advice as a Subject Matter Expert on financial crimes compliance programme expectations for banks and financial institutions, including whether client responses concerning their financial crimes control framework addresses the gaps identified through customer due diligence. 
  • High Risk Memos: review and challenge high risk memos submitted by the business to ensure there is a clear articulation of risks and risk mitigants and that relevant enhanced due diligence requirements have been met prior to submission to EAMLOC.
  • 2LOD support for incoming KYC/due diligence requests and Requests for Proposals: act as the central point of contact for the 1st Line of Defence (1LOD) to provide 2LOD support in relation to incoming KYC requests, due diligence on BNY Mellon EMEA legal entities and branches, and RfP responses. Direct the 1LOD to relevant resources and contribute to developing the suite of materials available to meet client and counterparty expectations and needs.
  • Governance and Management Information (MI), Escalation and Reporting: assisting with development of financial crimes MI for key governance committees and otherwise supporting escalation and cascading of financial crimes issues through reporting or other channels so that key financial crimes risks are identified, discussed and mitigated. Oversight, review, and challenge of MI in relation to overdue KYC, compliance-approved extensions, and the Fast Track process.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Liaising with colleagues/peers in other jurisdictions on EMEA Financial Crimes Compliance programme matters and issues of common interest.
  • Building a strong understanding of the EMEA Financial Crimes Compliance Framework, including governance and escalation requirements.
  • Supporting the Head and Deputy Head of EMEA Financial Crimes Compliance on strategic initiatives or programmes, as needed.

Job Specific Competencies / Technical Skills / Knowledge

  • Financial services financial crimes / compliance / legal experience
  • Knowledge of financial crimes laws, regulations, and the expectations of European and/or UK regulators

Academic/Professional Qualifications (or equivalent qualifiers)

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
