Job description:

We are looking for a capable and independent person to be part of a Global Operations team in Legal who will predominantly focus on the provision of legal services in respect of US pensions matters. We work as a team in providing legal advice and support and strive to be accepted by the business as a reliable, credible, professional business partner.
 
Principal Accountabilities:

 

  • Coordinate with the US pension plan administrator to formalize Board of Trustee meeting agendas, prepare pre-read materials, and draft proposed meeting minutes;

  • Perform Board of Trustee records management function (e.g., organized filing of meeting pre-reads, minutes, written consents, and plan private equity documentation);

  • Develop a process for and shift from a physical records file-plan to a fully electronic file plan;

  • Prepare draft secretarial certifications;

  • Collect documents needed for private equity investments;

  • Identify relevant documents needed for US pension plan participant claims and perform legal review;

  • Prepare US pension plan participant appeal files for the Board of Trustees;

  • Receive and review US pension plan class/group litigation reports, perform follow-up with outside counsel, and manage completion of litigation sign-on documentation;

  • Monitor US defined contribution litigation and prepare case summaries and periodic reports;

  • Demonstrate Shell’s Foundational Behaviors;

  • Understand the Shell Group structure and the Shell Control Framework; and

  • Carry out such other tasks to support colleagues within the Central Legal Services Team, as required. Carry out such other tasks to support colleagues within the North American Labor, Employment and Benefits Team and Central Legal Services Team, as required.

 
Dimensions :

This lawyer will report to the Central Legal Services Manager, SBO Krakow, in a team that supports a wide variety of other legal departments and businesses spread across the world and will need to show a high degree of flexibility and to be able to work and provide legal support to the business virtually. Also, whilst the role has a clear focus on US pensions matters, Central Legal Services works as a global team and all lawyers are expected to support each other and at times, undertake work supporting other business units. This cross-over is also encouraged from a personal development perspective.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Law degree with 5+ years of experience as a lawyer;

  • Well organized;

  • Enthusiastic self-starter who pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes;

  • Commercially minded;

  • Capability to quickly build knowledge of different topical areas and a demonstrated solution-oriented attitude;

  • Self-confident team player with the ability to work independently under pressure with minimum supervision and to adapt quickly, with a clear strength in identifying priority assignments, managing time and expectations;

  • Strong analytical and issue spotting skills;

  • Able to work under time pressures created by fast moving businesses;

  • Ability to work as part of a team and with both internal and external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds; and

  • Good verbal and written communication skills/ fluent written and spoken English
