Department / Team overview

EB Controllers team

The role is currently located within the Poland Controllers team of BNY Mellon (BNYM) to support the accounting and controlling activities of the EB Controllers team. The EB Controllers team is responsible for the Legal Entity Finance functions of accounting and reporting for the BNYM EB legal entities.

The EB Finance team consists of 40 members across Europe with support from a Shared Service Center located in Poland. The EB Controllers team utilises the global processes and global footprint of BNYM Finance that involves significant outsourcing of production activities to offshore service locations mainly located in India. The members of EB Controllers team operate in a cooperative and supportive manner to ensure that all activities are completed accurately and on time. Cross-training and opportunities for enlarging experience allow for professional development across the full range of activities performed by the Finance team.The EB Controllers team seeks out and executes on opportunities for continuous improvement to ensure that support is provided to its internal clients that allowing them to outperform over time.This management role is within the Shared Service Center.

Your role:

  • Management of Finance Shared Service Center staff and process deliverables located in Wroclaw, Poland;
  • Finance representative to the respective internal governing bodies and local authorities in Poland.

Qualifications:

Personal qualities and experience

  • Communication - has excellent presentation skills and is able to instil confidence in senior leadership, regulatory bodies and entity Boards. Ability to 'tell a story' and transform numbers into insightful financial information. Fluent command of English and Polish is essential for the role.
  • Accounting & Oversight - oversees the preparation of activities performed out of Shared Service Center. Ensures GAAP, CAP and SOX controls are effective, accurate and appropriate for a legal entity.
  • Controls & Audit - develops the governance around the accounting & controlling operations ensuring that controls are appropriate for the entity's operations and that the monthly processes perform as required. Partners with external audit to ensure that interim and year end audits are successfully concluded.
  • Advisory - uses deep understanding of the business and operations and excellent accounting technical skills to provide guidance and advice related to the impact of business or organisational developments, regulatory changes, change in accounting policies on the legal entity.
  • Leadership - has supervisory responsibility ensuring that day to day work is completed accurately and timely.  Acts as a role model within the Controllers function and supports strategic objectives.

Technical skills

  • Qualified accountant (ie CIMA) or have gained an equivalent level through relevant experience (Audit / Consultancy firm).
  • Project management certifications (ie Six Sigma / Prince2) or have gained an equivalent level through relevant experience is a plus.
  • Good general IT knowledge and experience, preferably Oracle.
