BNY Mellon seeks a Compliance Officer with substantial experience in Privacy compliance or risk management, preferably with a financial services background to support its activities in EMEA and APAC. This is an opportunity to help enhance the organization’s existing Privacy control framework at a time of ongoing regulatory change with global impact. 

The successful candidate will support in embedding the Privacy Compliance framework and engagement model and be hands-on in providing oversight and challenge to the organization. With experience of interpreting and practical application of Privacy regulations, the successful candidate will be an advocate for Privacy risk management across the organization.

Role overview:

  • Provides advice, challenge and oversight of Privacy compliance activities across the organization, to facilitate effective management of risks and associated regulatory obligations.
  • Supports the Privacy Compliance team in execution of its regulatory and organizational responsibilities to ensure compliance with relevant Privacy laws and regulations.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of Privacy laws, policies and regulations and appropriately requests the advice of regional experts, as needed.
  • Uses influencing and negotiation skills, as well as experience of Privacy risk management to increase the likelihood that strategy changes driven by relevant regulation are appropriately implemented in a timely manner.

Primary responsibilities

  • Support in the implementation of the organization’s global Privacy compliance strategy.
  • Apply knowledge and experience of relevant Privacy risk concepts to provide advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and support in the regular evaluation and assessment of Privacy compliance risks facing the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including records of processing activities and data protection impact assessments
  • Analyse existing and proposed legislation, regulatory announcements and industry practices impacting the organisation’s Privacy control framework through existing horizon scanning process. Assess applicability ensure timely distribution of associated stakeholder communications.
  • Respond to Privacy queries and issues arising; escalate high risk and/or significant issues to senior management.
  • Support in the oversight of privacy incidents including second line oversight and challenge of root cause analysis, remedial actions taken, trend analysis and collation of regular management information for reporting.
  • Provide support in the execution of the Privacy Compliance team’s annual strategy and delivery plan; establish and maintain appropriate repositories to enable the team to demonstrate delivery of the plan and of regular credible challenge.
  • Monitoring compliance with applicable privacy laws, highlighting and challenging where non-compliance is identified.
  • Assist in the production of regular privacy risk assessment documents and compliance dashboard representing the health of BNY Mellon’s Privacy control framework.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; Legal, IT, Business or Finance degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of total work experience preferred.
  • Practical experience of working with EMEA Privacy/Data Protection laws required. Knowledge and experience with Privacy/ Data Protection Laws outside of EMEA a plus.
  • Financial Services, Audit or Compliance background and/or experience with financial services compliance and/or relevant privacy experience with the pertaining laws, regulations and rules of relevant regulators preferred.
  • Relevant Certification or industry accreditation e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E) preferred
