What is the Operational Risk Team responsible for?  

The Operational Risk team at Alcentra, part of Franklin Templeton, are responsible for executing the firm’s operational risk framework, per FCA requirements. This includes assessing and enhancing operational processes, risks, and controls within the firm. The team report to the Head of Risk & Compliance and collaborate with departments such as Compliance, Investment Risk, Finance, Operations, AML/KYC, Portfolio Management, Trading, IT, Business Development, Product, Investment Structuring & Fund Formation, and Credit Research. The department’s mission is to manage operational risk through a robust framework and provide proportionate, commercially sound recommendations to the business.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of Operational Risk Senior Specialist?

Core Responsibilities

  • You will conduct controls testing and document key process flows.
  • You will help conduct the annual RCSA refresh and coordinate workshops.
  • You will compile monthly KRI reporting and escalate out-of-tolerance metrics.
  • You will help document and resolve operational errors.
  • You will track open RCSA action items to completion.
  • You will support client-facing teams with RfP and DDQ responses on the team’s remit.
  • You will update team procedures and policies.
  • You will assist with ad hoc tasks from senior management.

Team & Collaboration

  • You will work closely with the Head of Operational Risk from day one and have the opportunity to deliver both individually and as part of the team.
  • You will also have the opportunity to interact with other teams across the Alcentra business through your work responsibilities.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

Experience, Education & Certifications

  • Background in operational risk, enterprise risk, regulatory compliance assurance reviews, or internal audit within investment management essential.
  • Proven controls testing experience, and previous ownership of components of an operational risk framework.
  • Experience in boutique asset managers is advantageous but not essential.

Technical Skills

  • Process mapping skills.
  • Good understanding of investment management processes, risks, and controls.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Soft Skills

  • Clear concise communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Proactive, self-driven and well-organized.

This is a hybrid work model with three days per week in the office: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays . Shift: flexible: 8:30-9.30 – 5:00-6.00 pm
