Your responsibilities


Providing high quality, accurate and timely legal advice under Legal Services Global Operations department within the Central Legal Services Team on a diverse range of corporate legal matters with a strong focus on US pensions matters, including:

Scope:

  • Coordinating with the US pension plan administrator to formalize Board of Trustee meeting agendas, prepare pre-read materials, and draft proposed meeting minutes.
  • Performing Board of Trustee records management function (e.g., organized filing of meeting pre-reads, minutes, written consents, and plan private equity documentation).
  • Developing a process for and shift from a physical records file-plan to a fully electronic file plan.
  • Preparing drafts of secretarial certifications.
  • Collecting documents needed for private equity investments.
  • Identifying relevant documents needed for US pension plan participant claims and performing legal review.
  • Preparing US pension plan participant appeal files for the Board of Trustees.
  • Receiving and reviewing US pension plan class/group litigation reports, performing follow-ups with outside counsel, and managing completion of litigation sign-on documentation.
  • Monitoring US defined contribution litigation and preparing case summaries and periodic reports.
  • Performing an Applicant Background Check Screening, including review of the BGC Report and Job Description, research whether any state/local law applies to review of the Report, review of the law of state/county/city where applicant resides, review of BGC Report (considering nature and gravity of the crimes, time elapsed, nature of the job), and issuing an advice either to recommend or decline proceeding with conditional job offer.
  • Providing support to HR in the handling of pro se RESOLVE mediations (a formal conflict resolution program for individuals) to mediate employment-related claims prior to litigation), including assisting HR with drafting the mediation statement and providing mediation prep to HR prior to the mediation hearing.
  • Increasing awareness and retaining knowledge on the subject of external focus by giving trainings to staff of Shell Group.
  • Capturing learnings and proposing improvements to the existing processes, agreements, and guidance notes.
  • Carrying out such other tasks to support colleagues within the North American Labor, Employment and Benefits Team and Central Legal Services Team, as required.

Our requirements


  • Law degree and license to provide legal services in the jurisdiction where physically located.
  • At least 5 years or more of relevant post-graduation experience.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter who pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes - proven record of continuous improvement.
  • Capability to quickly build knowledge on different topical areas and a demonstrated solution- oriented attitude.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Adapt quickly with a clear strength in identifying priority assignments, managing time and expectations.
  • Flexibility to work as part of virtual team. 
  • Fluency in English with strong English legal drafting skills.
  • Contracting experience with the ability to understand strategies and risk mitigation.
  • Strong analytical and issue spotting skills.
  • Independent and is accountable for relationships with broad range of stakeholders.
  • Has breadth of experience and knowledge that creates ability to deal with new and unexpected issues.

Able to solve imaginatively, common technical/operational problems.
