Accounting Team Leader

JOB DESCRIPTION

You will join the Financial Division in our Group Accounting Services (GAS) department as Accounting Team Leader where you will manage a team of 8 accountants.

Main roles

Managing a team of (associate) accountants within our Finance shared service center.

  • Coordinating the daily activities of your accounting team and ensuring that all major projects, month-end, and year-end reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Supervise the team progress of financial and accounting objectives
  • Evaluating, developing, and improving department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Follow-up general accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial documents, such as balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements and capital expenditure schedules.
  • Lead a team of professionals with a focus on people empowerment and accountability to drive outcomes. Give regular feedback and allocate sufficient time for people’s development and support.
  • Perform month-end analytical reviews of the accounts, explaining fluctuations to key collaborators (cost accounting analysis).
  • Support the team for the preparation, recording, analysing and reporting accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
  • Maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls. Also ensure that accounting procedures align with Belgian GAAP.
  • Identify areas for improvement in execution and take action to make it a success.
  • Ensure that the balance sheet accounts are coherent and accurately reconciled.
  • Conducts or assists in the documentation of accounting projects
  • Get along with internal and external auditors

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor or Master in Finance / Accounting with several years of experience in team management

  • You have confirmed people management experience and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • You have Leadership skills in leading and developing a team of accounting professionals.
  • Strong understanding of accounting, finance, and management principles.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (excel) and accounting principles.
  • You pay attention to details and accuracy, and have a fast learning, analytical and pro-active attitude.
  • You know how to set priorities and are stress-resistant.
  • You have experience in working with an integrated ERP system, preferably Oracle.
  • You are proficient in English.
