What is the team responsible for?

We are seeking a motivated Investment Writer to join the Product Strategy Group within Franklin Templeton Fixed Income (FTFI). FTFI managing diverse fixed income strategies with over 50 years of experience, 180+ professionals globally, and $215 billion in assets. The team operates from San Mateo, Boston, London, New York, Chicago, Singapore, and regional offices worldwide.

The FTFI Product Strategy team ensures high-quality written content that meets investment market standards and communicates effectively both internally and externally. The Investment Writer will collaborate with senior writers, portfolio managers, and investment staff to produce recurring investment product commentary, white papers, flash insights, and thought leadership communications.

Responsibilities include creating commentaries using independent research and data analytics, focusing on scheduled deliverables and high-profile projects like thematic pieces, newsletters, and website content.

The role involves working under the direction of senior writers, ensuring compliance with corporate standards, effective communication, and meeting project deadlines.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of an Investment Writer? 

  • Creates reoccurring commentaries using independent research, attribution reports and other data analytics. Key core focus includes writing and reviewing scheduled, recurring commentary deliverables.
  • Streamline portfolio commentary process and improve quality of commentaries by gaining a solid understanding of commentary cycles and the flow of deliverables between parties, as well as the preferences of various portfolio management groups. Adds value to group by identifying process improvements including using internal and external solutions to reduce amount of time spent on commentaries including the potential use of AI solutions.
  • Manage a fast pace of assigned projects/deliverables by actively communicating with team members about deadlines and informing all interested parties of deliverable timelines and status.
  • Write and oversee production of more complex or high-profile commentary deliverables (e.g., thematic papers, market commentaries.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • Ability to write in English and verbally communicate at a college level.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably from a US or UK institution, or a year abroad in English speaking institutions.
  • At least 1-3 years of successful writing experience or equivalent, strongly desired in the financial services industry. Solid, proven understanding of investment products and industry; good working knowledge of the firm’s products and the overall industry.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, including ability to perform simple mathematical calculations or analyses and accurately proofreading documents. Proficiency interpreting statistical information and ability to translate data to support written statements.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, proficiency at prioritization, proven experience with simultaneously managing multiple tasks, and the ability to operate under scheduled deadlines.
  • A true team player, translating prior knowledge and experience into strong and productive relationships.
  • Knowledge of business desktop applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, etc.)
  • Works autonomously, with limited general direction/supervision; work is reviewed for accuracy.
  • Experience working with cross-functional and multi-channel teams (e.g., Portfolio Management, Marketing, Legal, Creative Services, Principal).
  • Experience in use of AI solutions, such as prompt generation, is preferable.
