The ABB Way Finance Transformation Program is a business-led program that will help to underpin the new ABB Way operating model and decentralization agenda. It is a key first step in establishing global end-to-end processes and modernizing the finance part of our legacy ERP estate which will create sustainable benefits for ABB. Within this framework, under the Record-to-Report (R2R) workstream, our processes to design, operate and assess Internal Controls are also being reviewed, driving towards higher efficiency and simplification, while continuing to ensure full compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. As an Internal Controls Specialist for the R2R process, you will help establish a standardized, digitalized and compliant process to achieve both project and organizational goals.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain a high-quality internal controls over financial reporting. As part of the ABB Way Finance Transformation, and within the R2R process, participate to the design and deployment of controls, process walkthroughs, management testing and deficiency remediation.
  • Drive and shape a strong internal control environment in cooperation with the responsible operational management. Ensure a coordinated and consistent approach from design to implementation, maintenance and assessment of the internal control system in compliance with ABB’s policies and procedures.
  • Support responsible process owners to identify financial reporting risks, control gaps and potential improvements. Drive the implementation of standardized processes and controls to simplify and rationalize the internal control environment.
  • Identify opportunity for process automation in close cooperation with IT in order to strengthen the control environment and to drive efficiency.
  • Monitor and guide operational management in the remediation and deficiency assessment process and proactively work with the Process and Control owners to define the deficiency root causes and to establish timely and sustainable remediation plans.
  • Deliver periodic training to and share expertise with Process Owners, Control Owners and Control Performers to ensure successful execution of roles and responsibilities. Intensively collaborate with the Internal Controls community to promote best practices throughout the organization.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external auditors, supporting their plans and their definition of scope of work, monitoring the results of their reports and sponsoring the process and control actions to remediate deficiencies in due time.

Your background

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration. CPA or equivalent a plus.
  • 5-8 years of experience in internal controls practices. Experience in external or internal audit preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and reporting (US GAAP).
  • Proven project / change management experience. Hands-on personality and Can-do attitude
  • Ability to work independently and multi-tasking in a fast-moving environment. Attention to details and solid commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • Appetite for simplifications and willingness to change. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, understanding the consequences of different alternatives
  • High degree of flexibility in a multicultural environment. Ability to present and report activities in a clear and effective way. Enthusiastic learner and team-player
  • Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written). Additional languages a plus.
